These boots were just what I was looking for. I wanted tall, western style boots (without being cowboy). These have a moderate heel, (higher than the Melissa) and a rustic leather appearance, on the Cognac. The toe box is comfortable, and the length was roomy. I ordered the 8.5, and found the boot a good fit. I can definitely wear a sock without fear of rubbing or being uncomfortable. I am 5'7" tall and 122 lbs with average sized calves, the boot came up to just below my knee. The top is wide enough to tuck in a standard jean (offering versatility over only skinny jeans). Due to the height, they also look nice with skirts and dresses. I am pleased overall, especially with the quality. Frye doesn't disappoint. Amazon is the best price on the web. Great customer service, as well.

    I've wanted these for a long time but hated to spend this much. I now believe it is worth the money and I'll wear these for many years to come. They fit true to size. I highly recommend getting them!

    I received these boots and put them on immediatley. They are a bit tight in the calves for sure but this type of leather will stretch to fit. The color is wonderful and as usual, Frye quality is the best. I have several pairs of Frye boots and shoes and recommend that you pay the extra and get something that will last a lifetime

boots review on FRYE Shirley Over The Knee Riding Leather I loved and wanted this boot regardless of the fact that i knew my calf size was larger then what the boot circumfrance stated. My calf is a 16 3.4.. but i knew that in a couple of days it would give and it did. When i first tried them on they wouldnt go pass my calf then after wearing them in the house they gave but then i realized i should have tried them with socks. I put the socks on and then in two days they stretched and fit my calf nicely. i always order a half size up, which was plenty of room to wear with socks and be comfy. I love this boot and thats why i took 4 days to decide if it was worth all the stretching and it was. Dont plan on buy another black boot for some years. One change I would make to these boots if I were the designer: I'd make them knee length. They are a little short for the style. I normally wear a 9.5WW. Even though these were only a W, I had plenty of room in the footbed. I've ordered about eight pairs of boots trying to find one to fit and wished I could have kept these, even as an extra pair, since they aren't going to go with everything. My beef with these boots is that even though the calf opening says 16 inches, I could barely zip them up on my 16" calves (where I could on other boots of the same width).
