boots review on FRYE Jenna Inside Zip Knee High

FRYE Jenna Inside Zip Knee High

I have never spent this kind of money on shoes before but I've been searching for years to find boots that fit my skinny calves and are comfortable. I do a lot of walking so I've had boots fall apart on me in the past. These boots are really comfortable and are narrow enough in the circumference that they actually look normal on me. It almost feels like I'm wearing a sneaker. I ordered both my size and a size below and I ended up going with my usual size because my toes felt a little tight in the toe box in the smaller size and I hate that feeling. I have really flat, narrow feet and pencil-like calves and these boots do sag a bit in the ankle and look a bit bulky but I don't mind the look. They look like high-quality boots and you can tell that they will last. I have already gotten a lot of compliments on them and I am looking forward to wearing them as my new go-to boots . If you have narrow feet, skinny calves, do a lot of walking and are looking for comfort, these are the boots for you!

  1. I cant say enough good things about this boot! the boot is sturdy with thick gorgeous leather. I ordered both the Jenna inside zip and the Veronica Slouch because I couldnt make up my mind which one i'd keep. There is just no comparison on the quality! I ordered the Jenna in size 81/2 due to the reviews saying that they run a little large and I'd say that's accurate. I'm a 9 and the 81/2 fit just fine. They are perfect for those who have thinner calves (I'm 13 1/2 circumference) and it's a little tight. They need some break-in time but it's really worth it. You will have those boots for years and be a staple in your wardrobe. I ordered the old town smoke and it's really lovely - I'm already I'm gettng compliments.

  2. This is my third pair of Frye boots. I bought them specifically because the circumfrance of the boot was less than the standard 15-16 inches. I am very petite, 5'3, 110lbs, hence small calves and these worked perfectly. I can wear skinny jeans tucked in with still room to move around. I ordered the dark brown and the color is true to the picture. I was not sure if I needed the 7 or 7.5 so I ordered both. The 7.5 seem to slip on the heels and the 7 seemed a little snug in against the width of my foot. As this is my third pair of Frye I have learned the tightness in the width is remedied by a thick sock, rubbing a little leather conditioner on, and working the front half of the boot to break in the leather and sole. Does the trick every time. If the heel is loose it will always be loose but breaking in the tightness will simply ensure a good fit. They are the most comfortable pair of the three I own. I also have the Jane Tall Cuff and the Harness 12R.

  3. I'm so excited that I've finally found gorgeous riding boots that fit! I have fairly narrow calves (12" circumference at the widest point), and these fit me well. And I mean WELL, not just the "this is as good as it's going to get" kind of "well." Most boots have a 14.5-15" shaft, and they look fantastic on most people's legs but resemble firemen's boots on me. I think these would fit someone with 11"-13" calves best, though I've heard that Frye boots can stretch a bit in the shaft, so there might be more wiggle room.

These look great with jeans tucked in, and the leather is thick enough that they will even stand up on their own with tights. No bunching at the ankle at all. The redwood color is beautiful, and I can tell that these will last a long long time. The foot portion of the shoe look less bulky than some other Frye styles I've tried, which is great, and the toe is also a bit more rounded.

I think they run just a hair big. I normally wear a 7 1/2, but one foot is a 7 1/2 while the other is more of a 7. In my normal size in these boots, my larger foot is fine (with a little bit of room) while the heel of my smaller foot slips up when I walk. I'm going to try a 7 to see if it fits better.

UPDATE: The 7s fit perfectly, so I think these do run a little big. The 7s are also an even better fit in the calf.

  4. Expensive but the best boots I've ever owned. Slim and tall. Color is amazing tan and looks great over jeans.

  6. At 13.5" I have a narrow calf for my height and foot size (5'9", 9 1/2 M sometimes a 10M) and struggle to find boots that don't look ridiculous. I knew these ran large so I ordered the 9M in dark brown and they are gorgeous. Quality is amazing (expect the bit of usual Frye heel slip) and best of all, the calf fits! I tried them on with socks, but I also have room for skinnies/leggings. They are a casual fit so are not snug through the ankle, but they fit like this style of boot should. If my 12" Frye harness boots (I needed an 8.5M in those) are any indication, these will last forever and just get more comfortable with wear. Even though the investment is a bit daunting, they are so worth it.
