FRYE Carson Lug Knee High Antique

This Frye boot lives up to all my "musts haves" before I would spend this much money. They are comfortable for all day and any day wear. They are great looking, classic and sophisticated with a western flare, without all the obvious contrast stitching and decoration. They have the Carson silhouette with the wonderfully roomy toe box and the shaped heel. ( I own two pairs of Carson oxfords because they look great with every pair of pants and jeans.) They are nice and high, just an inch or two below the knee (I am 5' 9")and the shaft is wide enough for slim jeans tucked in but not too loose and wide. I am thin, heavier legs might have less room. Another feature I love is the lug sole, great for wet or icy weather. These are a perfect boot for every day and will be stylish for ever. Love them!

  1. I have been wanting a pair of Frye's for YEARS and I finally starting shopping around online for a pair about 6 months ago. I am very picky; especially about shoes, I looked at every Frye boot available. I really loved the Frye Melissa Button boot but when I saw the distressing on the Carson Lug, I knew---this boot was sooo ME! I like that the sole has lugs as I had planned to have a cobbler do this to the Melissa Button if had purchased it. I live in an area with seasons; snow and such and I won't baby my boots. I will wear them in winter, snow, whatever. I will update this review on the boots wear occasionally as this is alot cabbage (at least for me!) to spend on a boot and I think people should know how well it holds up. Anyhow, I probably read 700+ reviews before ordering, most regarding size. Many stated to size down a half size. I found an online tutorial on how to measure one's foot and I came up with size nine. I decided to order the Carson Lug in size 9. There are two tutorials on boot fit on youtube that were very helpful after I received the boots; one by Justin boots and the other, Luchesse boots. LOL, even with all that help, I wasn't sure if the 9 wasn't a little too big, so I ordered an 8.5 the next day, so I could compare fits. Hey, I'm picky. The 8.5 was not a correct fit for a boot, no heel slip and it didn't even look right on me; the shaft is just a TAD shorter than the 9 but it made a difference. I advise you to order your correct size, you can always order another pair to compare. Amazon has fabulous easy returns. I ordered black, I'm weatherproofing today which does make them lose some of the distress look, just an fyi. THEY ARE SUPER COMFORTABLE, btw. The most comfortable boots I've ever owned! I'm in love with Frye boots and I'm stalking the Frye Harness 12R!

  2. When I opened my box I looked at the boot and thought I had gotten a worn pair. After going back to look at the pics I realized that's how they come. Very distressed. That said, I love them. Right below my knee, I'm 5.5 and the calf is perfect. They don't sag and they couldn't be any cuter. The dark brown has a lot of burnt red in it which I didn't expect from the pics. They run 1/2 size big. Order down.

  3. These boots are amazing in the dark brown! I found them to be true to size. I normally order an 8 if I'm only planning to wear thin socks in a boot, and that worked fine with these. My feet are on the narrow-side and I felt I still had some room in the foot box, but not enough that I needed to wear thicker socks. I was able to slip them on fairly easily, got hung up a little bit on one of the heels (which are fairly stiff) My calves are also narrow and I didn't really seem to have a gap at the top wearing with bare legs. I'm expecting that may change if I wear them over jeans. As it's off-season I haven't gotten a chance to see how they break in, but they didn't seem too uncomfortable right out of the box. They came really quickly through the shoes.com vendor through Amazon and were in perfect condition.

  4. I was all over the place trying to decide if I was going to bite the bullet and buy these boots. Oh My Gosh! I LOVE them! I didn't even have the box lid off and I could already smell the leather. They feel amazing!! There is adequate cushion in the sole and the scalloped edges are a beautiful touch. I guess I would consider myself petite, so I loved that the shaft was somewhat narrow. However, they were a cinch to get on and off. I was so pleased since I usually have the problem of looking like I'm wearing galoshes because they look so big around my calf. I cannot wait to wear them with a pair of shorts or a skirt for summer and then with my favorite skinny jeans once the weather cools! Glad that I snagged these when I did because I am going to wear the heck out of these boots!!!

  5. I ordered this boot in my usual 7.5 in dark brown and it fits great. I probably could have got away with a 7 but I like to wear thick warm socks. They came with a powder-like distressed look. I put some leather conditioner on them to get the powder off. They still look distressed which is what I wanted. I get so many compliments on these boots. They are by far my favorite pair in my closet and I have worn them all winter with jeans tucked in and dresses. They look great with everything. The calf circumference is puuuurrrfect. I did not want slouch boots. I have thin legs so these boots worked great for me. They are pricey but worth it.

  6. I love these boots! I ordered the dark brown and got them at an amazing price on Amazon. My only gripe is the sizing. I am not going to knock the boots themselves, though, because if I were trying these on in a store, it wouldn't be an issue. About me, I am 120 lbs. and almost 5'8", with narrower feet and a normal arch, with skinny legs/calves, and wear a 7 to a 7.5 (and typically more of a 7.5 or a 7.5N if I can find them) in most shoes. Originally, I had ordered these boots on another site in a 7.5M and they were WAY too big. So when I found them on Amazon in a 7M, I jumped at them. I also wished that Amazon had them in a 6.5, as I would have ordered both and returned those that did not fit, because the price on Amazon was unbeatable. I received them promptly (ordered on a Sunday, received on Wednesday) and wiggled my feet in. They were definitely too big, unless I had really thick socks on. I lucked out finding the 6.5M on the site I had originally ordered the 7.5's and ordered them. The Amazon boots were returned, but the 6.5M were just what I needed. I love the boots and finding what fit was obviously worth it. So, take note, sizing down may be required. Order from a site with a great return policy, you may really need it!

  7. I have searched all over Internet for the perfect pair of frye boots since no stores have them in stock cause it's not in season yet. But I needed them for an upcoming trip and even though I'm not a big fan of making big purchases without seeing or trying on the actual item, I had no choice but hit the web. I read a GAZILLION reviews (good and bad) on this boot and was on the fence about taking the plunge but I did. So happy I did. Ordered in my regular shoe size and they fit perfectly. Shaft is not too narrow like other reviewers complained about and my calf shape is normal, not skinny, not big. I had seen some pics of the boot where the distressing looked borderline nasty dirty, but it is not!! I got the dark brown. It's perfect. If you're on the fence, don't let any negative reviews stop you and just get them. Just buy them from somewhere with a good return policy just in case. I won't be returning mine though!!

  8. Love these boots! They do run very large, I first got the 7.5 and had to exchange them for a 7. I normally wear 7.5/8 but the 7's were great.
