boots review on FRYE Veronica Back Zip Antique

FRYE Veronica Back Zip Antique

This is exactly what I was looking for. A little bummed they came with major damage on them, but amazon has promised to take of it and I should be getting my new pair shortly, and I cannot wait to rock them. The fit on these are a lot tighter than the regular slip on Veronica from Frye so make sure you get your regular size or even a half size up.The cognac color is awesome. I am considering buying these in black too I love them so much.

Update: got my boots and returned them on Monday afternoon and got refunded on Tuesday morning! Amazon is amazing! New boots on on their way and I can't wait.

Update to the update: I have tried these boots in both the cognac and black, for some reason the black fits a lot truer to size. Note that there are two types of black leather, I did try them both. One is shiny and one is really distressed with no shine. I opted for the distressed, the shiny ones for me would have been preferable because they are easier to dress up but I did not like the way they looked on me. They made weird creases which reflected light in a way I did not like, the distressed black is wonderful though. To be honest it was a little shocking when I first saw them in the day light, they come with this grayish coating but that comes on a lot of Frye's and it eventually goes away or can be wiped away. After that settles in they are gorgeous and you can see the true color. They felt tight at first but after 2 hours of wearing they felt perfect. Now for the Cognac: I am having a terrible time with the fit of the cognac boots . the first pair I tried was perfect but as I said they were damaged and I had to return them but the 2 subsequent pairs I have tried have been a seemingly irregular fit. On one pair the left foot feels a half size too small and on another pair the right foot feels one whole size too small. Frye's are hand made so I have heard this complaint before, having to try on multiple pairs until you find the pair that suits you, a little like Goldilocks and her 3 chairs but worth it when you find the one that fits. The 9.5 fit perfectly in the black distressed but I'm going to have to try a half size up in the cognac as I am absolutely in love with the color and the look. My quest continues!

  1. Purchased these Frye Veronica Back Zip Boots in Dark Brown in October, 2012. I had to exchange them for a 1/2 size larger than my normal size because the length was a little short, but this was taken care of quickly and without issue. Once the new pair arrived, it took several days for the boots to break in and form/ stretch to my foot shape. I've worn these boots just about every day for the past six months and I must say, they are extremely comfortable!

The boot as a whole is the best of both worlds - fashion and function... Fashion: I've gotten dozens of compliments on them and they look fantastic with jeans or skirts. Function: I've even wore these once to process firewood out of the forest with my husband. He thought I was nuts for wearing such an expensive boot for a heavy duty job but I had to see how durable they'd be - and rugged they are! I've also worn them in deep snow. Since there's no insulation in the boots my feet did get cold, but the leather, back zippers, snaps and buckles are holding up very well even though they've gotten wet a few times.

The only negative thing I can nit-pick about these boots are they're slippery on ice and packed snow, and the back zippers can rub on my ankles a little just above my heel, but this is easily eliminated by folding my socks over. This is completely made up for by how comfortable they are wearing them to work everyday where I'm on my feet all day most often standing in one spot for hours on end. At the end of the day, my feet do not hurt at all!

These boots are the most comfortable shoes I've EVER owned. You won't be disappointed unless, of course, you don't order them!

  2. My second favourite. Which means nothing because they're Frye's and are built to be 5 stars.
On the topic of snaps coming undone.. It's drove me crazy, which is why I waited so long to write a review. Every 5 minutes, one of the heel snaps would come undone. I don't know why, but after wearing them every day for a month (I love the look that much), it just stopped. I don't know if others experienced the positive change, but now they only come undone if I'm stumbling home after a couple drinks and manage to boot my heel or something. SO, with that out of the way, I have next to no complaints. In the early days, when wearing sheer tights, I noticed a small chafe on my heel from the zipper. That stopped too, probably since the leather around the zipper psoftened up. I went with black, avoiding the distressed, figuring they'd get distressed on their own. Walking approx 1.5 hrs a day in a damp northwest climate, I'm not exactly easy on my shoes. So here I am left with my favourite boots ever. I like it better than the Paige- has a stronger sole and toe. Better than the Carson for similar reasons, as well as a style that goes with WAY more outfits. I'm wearing them now. They dress up or down. Jeans or dress. I don't know if I'll ever take them off- I'm starting to think I won't have to.....

  3. I got these boots today and and was excited. Never spent this much for boots before. Tried them on and wasn't sure if they were going to fit. I am 5'2 and have muscular calves-15 inches.I manage to get my foot into the boot with no problem ,did the zipper up and found the calf very tight, but to my surprise after wearing them for a copuple of hours they loosen up a lot. Had them on for at least 5 hours and no problems, thought the zipper at my heel would be a problem, but no. Love the look of these boots-casual. I only wish Frye would make pull on boots with no zipper with a wider calf- around 16 inches. If they do would someone please let the rest of us with bigger calfs know, I love the look of a knee-high boot without zippers. But overall will buy another pair in the future.

  4. I bought these boots a few days ago (they got here in 2 days, thanks Amazon :-))and I have to say that these are the most phenomenal, well fitting boots I have ever owned in my life. Like most women I have an affinity for shoes, however my collection far exceeds most women and I consider myself shoe connoisseur. I am 5'10 and wear a size 9-10 shoe and I am average size and have narrow feet as well. I got 9.5 and they fit like a glove. Plenty of room in the toes and I still have room in the calf to tuck in skinny jeans or leggings. They are quite tall too (usually the boots i try are too short). Completely beyond comfotable, I wore them for 8 hours on the first day and I had no blisters, no sore feet and no pinching anywhere. I got them in the black and the color was right on. Overall, completely worth the price and could not be happier, would not change one thing about them :-)

  5. I just got these boots today, and I've been debating over several different brands and styles of riding boots for a few weeks before finally deciding on these. I couldn't find any reviews of these boots prior to purchase, so I wasn't sure how they would fit. I decided to go with my normal shoe size, 8.5 and I am happy to report that they are true to size. I have athletic calves, and to my knowledge these are not made in extended calf size. The boots fit comfortably around my leg, but they will be quite tight if I wear them over leggings or jeans, so I will have them stretched when I take them in to be weather proofed. The leather on these boots is beautiful, and they are made to look more rugged/vintage as the other reviewer said. They are similar in style to the Frye Veronica Slouch, but these boots do not slouch. These are sure to be a staple in my wardrobe for a long time! Definitely worth the splurge!

  6. I am crazy about these boots - love the back zip and the buckles and the fact that they are taller boots. I got the dark brown, which is a really nice reddish-brown. I'm usually between a 9.5 and 10 so I was hesitant about what size to order. I got the 10 and I'm glad I did because I think the 9.5 would have been too narrow. So if you have narrow feet, these are TTS, but if your foot is wider and you're in between sizes, I would go with the larger. Looking forward to wearing these for a LONG time.
