boots review on FRYE Womens Carson Shortie Ankle

FRYE Womens Carson Shortie Ankle

I bought this boot from the warehouse section. They had been opened before, but for a discount of close to 50 percent I couldn't resist since I can't afford Fryes at full price. I have a hard foot to fit - size 9, high arch, wide foot and I haven't been able to comfortably wear regular height boots in quite awhile. Another reviewer noted that these worked for her with the same foot issues so I went for it. I have never done this before, but when I put them on, I did a little happy dance! Very comfortable! My high instep makes any boot hard to pull on, but these being short made it easier. I should note that I tried another style of Frye boot last year, another shortie, and that style was harder to pull on; I had to send it back. I like that there is no heel border to bend over inside the boot. They fit best with a medium sock (too thick and my wide foot feels strangled, too thin and there's some slippage). I'm a teacher and I wore these to work on their second wearing. On my feet all day and still comfy! I love the style. I will probably only wear them with jeans but they fit nicely under the pant leg and without any obvious boot line. They are tall enough that my jeans stay over them but short enough to be worn by someone with feet like mine. So glad I am back in boots !

  1. I decided to spend my Christmas bonus on these boots because I already own the same boot in orange. Last fall I was investigating boots because I wanted to get some cowboy boots mainly to dance in. I might mention I have very muscular calves which was sometimes a problem when fitting taller boots. The orange boots I had found at Nordstrom for half off. I loved them so much I wanted a second pair in violet. My feet have been warm, dry and stylish all winter.

  2. Beautiful boots! I am a 6.5-7 shoe, so I was so undecided on which to keep (I ordered both sizes). I kept the 6.5, as I am sure they will stretch. The 7's were maybe too roomy. They are great looking.

  3. This is a quality boot that fits true to size. The leather is so amazingly soft there is essentially no break-in period needed as with some boots. I love wearing them so much I'm tempted to get them in another color!

  5. I have several pair of Frye boots and the Carson are by far my favorite (I have them in the shortie, pull on and oxford). I have the Carson shortie in both dark brown and cognac and I wear them all the time. The leather uppers and sole are sturdy but also soft and super flexible. Feels like I'm wearing really good looking slippers. I've walked all over town in these. My normal size is a 6.5 and all the Carson's I have are size 6 and fit beautifully. Since I love my two other shorties and get so much use out of them, I decided to try them in the vintage black, also in size 6. However I returned them because the leather was more stiff and the were so big that my foot slipped around. Maybe the regular black leather might have been a better choice, but I've decided to stick with my browns for now.

  6. Love, love, love these boots!! So comfortable and a 1/2 size down from my normal size fits perfectly. My feet are very narrow, but with a light sock, perfection. I took out of the box and wore them with no breaking in needed. Frye always has the highest quality leather and craftsmanship. Couldn't be happier!!

  8. I spent ages reading reviews and looking up sizing charts before purchasing my Fryes, as I am in Australia. I ended up very confused, as the charts vary wildly, and then there was the advice that the Carson Shortie's run a half size bigger! I wear a 7 here, and ended up ordering size 8, something of a stab in the dark. I love my boots, but they are at least a half size too big. Because they are boots it doesn't matter too much, I just wear thicker socks, and there is a little bit of slip, but next time (and I would love another pair!) I would order a 7.5. Otherwise, boots are beautiful, very comfortable, and the subject of many envious compliments! Worth every penny!

  9. The shoes are great. I received many compliments on them. Considering to buy another pair when prices drop a bit.
